What Do You Want?

“What do I want?” Have you ever asked yourself that question; I mean, really asked yourself this question with deep thought and reflection? Asking questions is magic. It is how you win in life. To get what you want in life will take action…choices. The choices you make result in the direction each day goes. Who do you want to be? You are who you are because you chose to be that person.
My Granny Hogan always said, “If you don’t like what you are reaping, then change what you are sowing.” Essentially, she was saying to me that if I do not like my current situation, then change my actions; make different choices. You and I are the authors of our destiny.
In order to be the person that you dream of being and to have what you want in life, then you must be determined to make the right choices. For example, say you decided that you wanted to become a very prompt and on-time person. Then you will change how you respond to the alarm clock when it goes off. Instead of battling the snooze timer, you will sit up the first time the alarm sounds, put your feet on the floor, and hit the ground running. Sometimes in order to do this, you will have to make different choices the night before. Perhaps you need to go to bed earlier, lay out your clothes the night before, do some ironing, pack a lunch, or pre-prep some breakfast items. The choice is yours.
You decide how each hour goes. Those hours turn into days, that turn into weeks, months, years. Your choices determine your actions which eventually become habits. The habits you develop determine your character. Your character determines your reputation, and a good reputation will open more doors for you than any amount of money ever could.
So, ask yourself, “Who do I want to be? What do I want in life? What changes do I need to make in order to make this happen for myself? Put pen to paper. Write out your goals. Put them where you can see them. I have my goals typed out in bold font and taped to bathroom mirrors, the refrigerator, and above my desk so they are always before me. Then yield to the process. Make your flesh submit to you. Do not let your flesh tell you how to live your life because the flesh is lazy. You are not. You are a winner. You win because you do not let your flesh rule your life. You take the path less traveled marking it clear and well-traveled for those that chose to follow you.
